Android BasicAndroidKeyStore Sample

An advanced sample displaying the creation and usage of data integrity mechanisms

Introduction

This sample demonstrates how to use the Android KeyStore to safely create and store encryption keys that only your application can access.

A KeyPair consisting of a PrivateKey and a PublicKey is being generated. The private key then is being used to sign and verify a String.

Below Android M, this sample uses a KeyPairGeneratorSpec to generate a key pair. On newer versions of Android, a KeyGenParameterSpec generates a key pair with additional restrictions and properties.

Next to that appropriate exception handling for potential errors is being displayed.

Pre-requisites

  • Android SDK 28
  • Android Build Tools v28.0.3
  • Android Support Repository
